This was contained
in the list of best 100 co-operatives declared by Suruhanjaya Koperasi
Malaysia (SKM) during the national level celebrations of Hari
Koperasi Negara 2008 and the launch of Malaysian Co-operative
Commission which took place on 19 to 20 July, 2008 at the International
Convention Centre in Putrajaya.
The Suruhanjaya Koperasi Malaysia has, for the first time, introduced a
rating index showcasing the best 100 co-operatives in the country which
will serve as the benchmark for the co-operative sector to determine
the success of co-operatives in our country.
For a co-operative to achieve the best co-op status, it has to attain
the level of performance in finance (procurements, asset and equity)
business management and adherence to by-laws based on the standard set
by the Suruhanjaya Koperasi Malaysia.
As at 31 December 2007, there were a total of 5,170 co-operatives in
the country with a membership of 6.3 million and an accumulated capital
worth RM7.8 billion and assets valued at RM47.4 billion and a turnover
of RM6.1 billion.
Chairman, Dato’ Tan Gin Soon who attended the celebrations said it was
a proud day for our co-operative. He gave credit to the Board, the
staff and members for the achievement. He said that the listing should
spur the co-operative to strive further in the quest for excellence.
